Bulldog Men’s Basketball takes down No. 24 Middlebury College 83-58

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team took down their second straight nationally ranked program Friday afternoon during the Great Lakes Invitational beating No. 24 Middlebury College 83-58 to remain perfect on the season at 3-0.

The Bulldogs are averaging 98 PPG with a scoring margin of 29.7 and had their first road test of the season coming against the Panthers.  Redlands had four players in double figures led by Kendrick Currey (Manteca, CA) with 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting to go with seven rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.  Jhace Boston (Bakersfield, CA) added 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting with four rebounds and two assists, Cameron Brown (Bakersfield, CA) with 12 points and nine boards and Sam Abere (Lake Oswego, OR) with 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Redlands held the lead from start to finish shooting lights out with a 44.6% clip from the field and 35% from behind the arc.  A quick eight straight for UR set the tone early behind a pair of Currey triples and a layin by Robert Power (Pacific Palisades, CA).  The lead moved to 15-2 as Currey knocked down a jumper followed by a Khyree Armstead (Mountlake Terrace, WA) layup and a three-pointer from Abere.  Back-to-back buckets from Boston moved the score to 21-7.  Middlebury tried to comeback getting within ten at the 2:53 mark and then cut the margin to six at 31-25, but back-to-back three-pointers by Brown and Abere would send UR into the break up 37-25, increasing the lead back to double digits.

It was back and forth in the early stages of the second half until the Bulldogs went on a 9-3 run capped off by a Lucas Gordon (San Marcos, CA) layup moving the score to 48-32.  Midway through the half Redlands used a 9-2 surge to increase the margin to 22 as Boston would add a layup, three-pointer and free throw during the run.  Then with 5:16 to play the Maroon and Grey closed the door with six straight capped off with a two-handed jam from Malachi Miller (Modetso, CA), pushing the lead to 25.

Middlebury was able to add four points to end the game, but a Josh Himel (Jacksonville, FL) triple and a jumper from Power would secure the upset.

On the afternoon the Maroon and Grey added 19 points off 17 Panthers turnovers.  They also had 22 points from the bench, 10 second chance points, and 44 points in the paint.

Redlands has a quick turnaround as they now faceoff against No. 25 University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday, November 18 beginning at 2:00pm PST.
