Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Redlands Women's Soccer unable to hold 1-0 second half lead in loss at No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's soccer team (1-6-1, 1-2-1) held a 1-0 halftime lead at No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer Wednesday afternoon and they were still ahead after 65 minutes, but the Sagehens scored twice in the 66th as they beat the Bulldogs 3-1.

The Bulldogs started their afternoon with their first shot and shot on goal of the game as Sabrina Semmere had her shot saved in the fifth minute. After facing three Sagehen shots, all of which were off target, Semmere was found by Gianna Alati as they took the 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.

Pomona-Pitzer finally threatened the Bulldogs as Shannon Stewart made her first save in the center of goal in the 24th minute. She would maintain the lead with three more saves through the 33rd.

One final save to her right on the ground in the 43rd helped to preserve the shutout and allowed the Bulldogs to take a 1-0 lead into the break in a series they have lost nine-straight in.

To begin the second 45 there was an onslaught of opportunities for the Sagehens as they took 10 shots and two corners in the first 14 plus minutes. Stewart, however, made two saves and the other eight shots were not on target.

After four more shots and two more Stewart saves, Pomona-Pitzer finally equalized in the 66th, a goal that came off a rebound from a shot a second before the goal when Stewart made the initial save. The Sagehens then scored the game-winning goal 42 seconds later.

The game would end 3-1 with Stewart facing 11 more shots with only two on goal, though, one did make into the back of the net.

Redlands had their work cut out for them as they only got three shots, all on goal, and all in the first half while their defense faced 37 shots, 26 in the second half, and 13 of which were on goal.

The Bulldogs return to Farquhar Field for their first home game in 17 days as they host Whittier College on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the first of two-straight and four of five at home.
