LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (6-7-1, 2-6 SCIAC) were in a scoreless game in the second half at the University of La Verne Wednesday night before the Leopards scored twice within seven minutes as the Bulldogs fell 2-1.
In the opening eleven minutes there were five shots taken, four of which that came from La Verne and another for Redlands. Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) made a stop in the first minute and a half and Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA) had the Bulldogs' first look go high.
Stewart would then make three more saves the rest of the first half. During that time the Bulldog offense received shots from Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA), Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA), and Caprial Loescher (Portland, OR) who all put their shots on target but none were good enough to beat the keeper as the game was scoreless at the break.
Stewart again kept it 0-0 early in the second half with another stop, but in the 54th the Leopards broke through. They then scored the eventual game winner seven minutes later in the 61st.
Redlands, however, made a quick response in the 69th trying to put together a late push as Salinas found the back of the net for the third time this season.
For the Bulldogs that would be their final shot the rest of the game as they fell by one on the road.
Stewart again kept the game close with six saves as the Leopards held a 14-6 shot advantage and an 8-4 shot on-goal edge.
This Saturday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m. the Bulldogs will host Whittier College at Farquhar Field in game two of a doubleheader with the men's team.
