CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (5-2-2, 2-1-1 SCIAC) picked up a big three points on the road Wednesday afternoon beating Pomona-Pitzer 4-1 as they received goals from four different players.
Less than seven minutes into the game Julian Weber (Haiku, HI) made it 1-0 on a Phillip Kostenko (Redmond, WA) assist. Kostenko beat his defender down the right side and served a ball to the back corner of the box where Weber beat his defender one-on-one finding the right corner of the goal with his left foot.
Twenty-One minutes later Cody Bell (Highland, CA) found Owen Jamieson (Danville, CA) moving the score to 2-0. Bell curled a corner kick into the box where he found the head of Jamieson who connected to the top left corner of the goal.
A yellow card on Anthony Sena (Henderson, NV) occurred in the box in the 37th giving the Sagehens a penalty kick, which they converted as the Bulldogs held a 2-1 lead at the break.
Taylor Bell (Highland, CA) forced a save in the first two minutes of the second half and Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) kept Redlands in the lead with a big save in the 56th.
Then in the 62nd Kostenko made it 3-1 thanks to an Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) assist. Beckton won his battle with his defender on the left flank, and after a cutback, found Kostenko for an easy tap in from eight yards out.
A few minutes after the third goal Bachman was forced into another two save opportunities, coming up clutch for the Maroon and Grey. Then it was the Bulldogs' turn in the 73rd and 74th minutes as C. Bell and Landon Azavedo (Portland, OR) each had attempts on goal.
An extra insurance tally was added in the 77th as Beckton picked up another assist on the day finding C. Bell for the goal. Beckton grabbed a loose ball in the midfield and dribbled at the backline on the right side, he then hit a low cross into the box where C. Bell had a pretty back heel finish.
Bachman finished with five saves playing the full 90:00 minutes. C. Bell now has a goal and three assists this season. Kostenko now with six goals and an assist and Beckton adding his first two assists.
On the afternoon Redlands outshot the Sagehens 19-10, with eight looks being on goal. They also added three corner kicks.
Redlands returns to Farquhar Field this Saturday, October 5 at 1:00 p.m. as they host Whittier College in a big Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown.
