REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (5-4-1, 1-3 SCIAC) battled for 90:00 minutes Wednesday night, but was unable to find the back of the net falling 3-0 to Pomona-Pitzer on a scorching evening at Farquhar Field.
Jaiden Riodil (Tigard, OR) got the first shot of the game from either side in the fifth minute, but her attempt missed wide. Two minutes later the Sagehens would tack on the eventual game-winner finishing off a low cross in the box as Isla Burch would find Ella Endo as a runner on the backside. The Sagehens then doubled their lead the very next minute this time converting on a corner kick this time with Hannah Hong finding Melani Ng for a volley finish backpost.
Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA) tested the Sagehen keeper for the first time in the 17th minute, but she was able to handle the attempt.
CJ Akroush (Pasadena, CA) then added a shot on goal in the 31st minute, but it was not able to beat the keeper as Redlands continued to look for the breakthrough finish.
A few minutes later in the 34th Pomona-Pitzer scored for the third time, which was a long ball from Ng played up to Endo who beat a defender before finishing. At the half it would be 3-0 Sagehens as a late shot attempt from Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA) would be stopped.
It was a much slower offensive second half on both sides as the Bulldogs managed only one shot on target. Their defense though only forced Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) to make one save as the U of R pitched the second-half shutout.
The Bulldogs on the night had 10 shots with four being on goal. They also added a corner kick. Stewart finished with three saves playing all 90:00 minutes and Turiace and Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) each added three shots a piece.
Redlands will go on the road this weekend, Saturday, October 5 as they head to Whittier College for a 11:00 a.m. kickoff.
