WHITTIER, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (5-5-1, 1-4 SCIAC) was able to hold Whittier College to just one goal, but they were never able to get their offense going as they lost 1-0 on the road.
It was a slow offensive first half as the Bulldogs managed only one shot, a look from Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA). Despite the slow start, Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) came ready to play as she made four saves to keep the game scoreless at the half.
Stewart faced two more shots in the first four minutes of the second half as she made her fifth save. Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA) then got two looks, with the first being on goal.
In the 54th minute the Poets finally found the breakthrough goal, which proved to be the eventual game-winner.
Down the stretch Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA), Anika Schmied (Santa Cruz, CA), and Malia Kuhl (Seattle, WA) all put shots on target, but none were able to beat the keeper as the U of R fell on the road.
Stewart allowed one goal and faced 17 shots, 10 of which were on goal as she finished with eight saves.
Redlands will remain on the road as they travel to Pasadena to faceoff with Caltech on Wednesday, October 9 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
