REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (9-2-3, 6-1-2 SCIAC) had their fifth game across their last six with four or more goals as they took down Pomona-Pitzer 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Farquhar Field.
The Bulldogs got on top in the 25th with Connor Claborn's (Santa Clarita, CA) fourth of the season as Zach Darmanyan (San Diego, CA) and Phillip Kostenko (Redmond, WA) picked up assists. On the play Darmanyan found Kostenko outside the box who slipped a pass to Claborn on a run where he got behind a defender before tapping it into the far right corner of the goal past the keeper who was playing the ball on the ground to the near post.
Nine minutes later in the 34th Landon Azavedo (Portland, OR) took a corner and sent his ball towards the far post where Bo Robertson (Portland, OR) was waiting for the header finish for his third goal of the season giving UR a 2-0 lead.
In the second half the Bulldogs continued the pressure taking advantage of the poor Sagehen passing as Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) made it 3-0 in the 52nd. Taylor Bell (Highland, CA) and Kostenko combined for the assists.
Then in the 61st Beckton got his brace on a beautiful free kick that he took as basically a short corner following a Pomona-Pitzer foul. His attempt came from about five yards from the endline fooling the keeper as it bent back post.
Even though the game was not in doubt, Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) made his best save of the afternoon in the 70th minute when he tipped a shot up and over the bar to preserve the Maroon and Grey's fourth consecutive shutout. Over the past two games the backline for the Bulldogs led by Owen Jamieson (Danville, CA), Erik Davies (Snoqualmie, WA), and Robertson have been outstanding limiting opponents to a combined 13 shots with four of which being on goal.
The Bulldogs will look to take care of business in Pasadena this coming Wednesday, October 23 when they play Caltech beginning at 4:00 p.m.
