CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Volleyball team (9-12, 4-9 SCIAC) fell in straight sets at No. 19 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Wednesday afternoon.
The match was controlled early on by the Bulldogs as Kaegan Wherry (Englewood, CO) had two kills along with another from Elizabeth Moyer (Surprise, AZ) as UR led 7-2.
Over the next 18 points the Athenas took control by winning 16 of those points, taking an 18-9 lead.
Down the stretch Emma Murphy (South Jordan, UT) and Kaitlyn DeLong (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) had kills off Lyric Waterman (Aurora, CO) assists and Makenna Van Hofwegen (Buckeye, AZ) provided a service ace, but CMS took the opening set 25-16.
Following an early tie in the second set, the Athenas led throughout the frame extending their lead to 2-0.
Redlands trailed early again in the third, falling behind 4-1, but Makaila Brooks (Las Vegas, NV) and Avery Aminoff (Alexandria, VA) combined to win four-straight points for the Maroon and Grey as they went ahead, 5-4.
That strong stretch was their best on the afternoon as CMS was able to pull away late taking the sweep.
The Bulldogs were outhit .383-0.67. Julia Hodges (Virginia Beach, VA) had 10 digs as the lone player to reach double figures in any of the major statistical categories.
Redlands will return to Currier Gym this coming week as they host Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday, November 5 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
