U of R Men's Basketball wins fourth in-a-row after dominate win over Mount Union 91-69

LAS VEGAS – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team (9-2) won their fourth-straight game following a 91-69 win over RV University of Mount Union in game two of three at the D3hoops.com Classic on Sunday afternoon at South Point Arena.

It was a lower scoring opening 13 minutes with the Bulldogs and Purple Raiders combining for just 48 points. Redlands, though, scored 29 of those and held Mount Union to just 19 as they held their first double-digit lead following a Thomas Hastings (Chandler, AZ) three off a Dayvon Gates (Carson, CA) assist.

The Bulldogs held their largest lead of the game as time expired at the end of the first half when Jhace Boston (Bakersfield, CA) found Donovan Ware (Palmdale, CA) for a buzzer-beating three that capped off a 19-2 run over the final 4:58. Jake Hlywiak (Valencia, CA) and Nathan Mattera (Fontana, CA) combined for 11 points during that run.

Kendrick Currey (Manteca, CA) opened the second half with a pair of free throws and Chozen Amadi (Dallas, TX) hit a three after an Omari Ferguson (Chicago, Ill.) offensive rebound pushing the lead to 36, 62-26, inside the first two minutes.

A couple of minutes later a Currey free throw and an Amadi fastbreak layup made it a 40-point game with 16 minutes left.

Redlands maintained their 30-point lead until the 8:21 mark when the Raiders converted twice at the line to draw within 29.

Three minutes later Mount Union cut the deficit to 21, 83-62, as their run stretched to 23-5. Over the final five minutes, however, Redlands held the Raiders to only seven points and received six points from Lucas Gordon (San Marcos, CA) and a layup from Logan Dorsey (Los Angeles, CA) to seal the dominant win.

Twelve different players scored for the Bulldogs with Amadi (17), Currey (15), and Ware (11) reaching the double digit mark. Redlands shot 43.1% from the field, but they held the Raiders to a 40% percent mark in the first half and outscored them by a combined 34 points from three and the line.

Redlands caps off their non-conference schedule with a match-up against New Paltz on Monday at 6:00 p.m. in Las Vegas.
