Facelo catches fire from deep to help Bulldog Women's Basketball end 2024 with a win over St. Vincent College

LAS VEGAS – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (7-5) ended their 2024 portion of the schedule with a 64-53 win against Saint Vincent College at the D3hoops.com Classic Sunday afternoon at South Point Arena.

It was the Alex Facelo (San Jose, CA) show in the first quarter picking up 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 mark from three-point territory as the Bulldogs converted on five threes and scored 27 points holding an 11-point lead after 10 minutes.

AJ Wick (Henderson, NV) and Carly Hicks (Portland, OR) started the second quarter off scoring six combined points in the first minute and a half. The Hicks' basket at the 8:14 mark would be the final made field goal for three minutes until Colbi Zorich (Kenmore, WA) made a jumper after the Bearcats had pulled within nine.

Saint Vincent would go another run, this time making it a two-possession game, 38-32, with 1:39 left in the half. But Redlands would respond with a layup in the paint off a Krista Karban (Murrieta, CA) assist and the fifth Facelo three to help the U of R take a 43-33 lead into the break.

In the third quarter the Bulldogs were up by double figures for all but :20 seconds and led by as many as 17 when Leila Hosn (Seattle, WA) found Facelo for another three with 3:53 on the clock.  But the Bearcats ended the quarter on a 9-1 run cutting the deficit to single digits, 57-48, after 30:00 minutes.

Zorich and Kayden Sanders (Nipomo, CA) opened the fourth with five points and had Redlands up by 14 with 7:46 on the clock as the two teams would combine to score only 12 points after combining for at least 29 in the first three.

In the fourth quarter the Bearcats scored only two points until they made a three with a minute left in the game.

Zorich and Facelo each finished with 18 points and Wick grabbed 14 rebounds for her 10th double-digit rebound game this season. Facelo's 18 points came on six threes, tying her career-high and the seventh most in single-game program history.

Redlands will have a little more than a week off before they travel to the University of La Verne on January 8 with tipoff at 7:00 p.m.
