Bulldog Men's Basketball takes down La Verne on senior night 94-82

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team (13-9, 5-8 SCIAC) honored their five seniors Robert Power (Pacific Palisades, CA), Neil Owens (Pasadena, CA), Josh Himel (Jacksonville, FL), Sam Abere (Lake Oswego, OR), and Khyree Armstead (Mountlake Terrace, WA) before they took down the University of La Verne 94-82 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action Saturday night.

The Bulldogs got off to a 14-2 start as Owens scored five points, Abere with a triple, Power knocking down a three, Kendrick Currey (Manteca, CA) scoring on a fastbreak, and Cameron Brown (Bakersfield, CA) adding more at the line.

The lead grew to 18, 36-18, with 4:59 to play in the half after Lucas Gordon (San Marcos, CA) made two free throws and then hit a three after Abere got UR possession with a steal.

After a small Leopard run, Owens and Gordon each scored buckets to help the Bulldogs grow their advantage to 16 at the break, 47-31.

The Leopards cut the lead down to single-digits with 13:32 to play after they made a three.

Overall, in the first 12 minutes of the half the two sides went back-and-forth with made three-pointers as La Verne came within three possessions, 76-68. Redlands though would pull away as they restored their double-digit lead only :10 seconds later as they cruised to the win.

Owens finished with a game-high 25 points (8-17 FG, 5-12 3FG, 4-4 FT), Power and Gordon each with 14 points (6-10 FG, 2-3 3FG) (4-5 FG, 2-2 3FG, 4-4 FT, 7 REB), Armstead finished with nine points, eight rebounds, and five assists, Abere had seven points and two rebounds, and Himel made three and grabbed a rebound.

Redlands will head to Pasadena for a match-up with the California Institute of Technology on Wednesday, February 14 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
