Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Redlands Women's Water Polo takes on LMU and Ottawa at Tina Finali Tournament

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team played No. 11 Loyola Marymount University (LMU) and Ottawa University (Arizona) on Friday afternoon during the Tina Finali Invitational falling 21-2 and 16-5.

Game 1 (No. 11 Loyola Marymount; L, 21-2)

The Bulldogs got their first goal of the game at the 3:27 mark of the third when Katelyn Dwelley (Wildomar, CA) assisted Lucia Notaro (Thousand Oaks, CA). Then at the 3:04 mark of the fourth Gianna Ratto (Santa Rosa, CA) found Christine Chua for their second score.

Redlands outshot LMU 32-28 and had five more powerplay opportunities. Kaitlynn Pierceall (Beaumont, CA), Notaro, Anika Lundbaek (San Anselmo, CA), Chua, and Ratto all drew an exclusion. Sofia Portello (Sonoma, CA) added two steals while Dwelley, Ainsley Killian (Beaverton, OR), Pierceall, and Lundbaek all had steals. In goal Evelyn Teeter (Westminster, CA) played all 32 minutes and made a pair of saves.

Game 2 (Ottawa University; L, 16-5)

On a powerplay opportunity Notaro repeated her first game performance as she put the Bulldogs' first goal in the back of the net. Two minutes later with only :27 seconds left in the opening quarter Dwelley found Notaro for her second powerplay goal as it was a 7-2 game after eight minutes.

After a scoreless second and third for the Maroon and Grey, Alyssa Sorrell (Highland, CA) was able to convert back-to-back goals within :42 seconds of each other in the third as it was an eight-goal deficit, 12-4. Notaro and Dwelley had the assists. Portello scored the final goal as Lundbaek got the assist with :42 seconds on the clock in the fourth.

The Bulldogs were outshot by seven (30-23), but they were able to draw seven more exclusions (11-4) which led to two goals. In the first and fourth quarters they were only outscored by six (11-5) in comparison to the middle quarters when they were scoreless.

Redlands will return to action next Friday, March 1 at 11:30 a.m. as they play Siena College in game one of four across two days at the Convergence Tournament hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) and Pomona-Pitzer (P-P).
