REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team (0-4) lost their two games at the Bulldog Mini-Tournament No. 1 Saturday inside the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC). Redlands lost 19-2 in the tournament opener against Division I No. 23 California State University, Northridge (CSUN) and then ended the tournament with an 18-1 loss to Azusa Pacific University.
Game 1 (No. 23 Cal State Northridge; L, 19-2)
It was a slow start for the Bulldogs who were down 11-0 until Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) scored off a Katelyn Dwelley (Wildomar, CA) assist with only two seconds remaining in the opening half.
In the middle of the fourth quarter Redlands picked up their second of the game as Kaitlynn Pierceall (Beaumont, CA) found Courtney Sawin (Tacoma, WA) on a powerplay as the Bulldogs dropped the opener.
Lucia Notaro (Thousand Oaks, CA) had three drawn exclusions in her home debut, while Pierceall and Parker each had a steal. In goal Evelyn Teeter played all 32 minutes and made five saves.
Game 2 (Azusa Pacific University; L, 18-1)
The Cougars made life tough on the Maroon and Grey as they were less than three minutes away from a rare water polo shutout, but Sawin got her second goal of the tournament with 2:27 left in the fourth. Alyssa Sorrell (Highland, CA) was credited with the assist.
Parker and Sorrell both drew two exclusions with Pierceall, Sofia Portello (Sonoma, CA), Sawin, and Teeter all collecting a steal. In goal Teeter made eight saves.
On the tournament as a whole Dwelley led the tournament with two field blocks and Sawin and Parker each posting one.
The Bulldogs will be off for two weeks before they return to the TAC for Bulldog Mini-Tournament No. 2 on Saturday, February 17 at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. against No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and the University of Toronto.
