REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Baseball team (7-10, 2-7 SCIAC) took on Montclair State University Tuesday afternoon falling behind 6-0 in the first inning before dropping a 12-2 decision in their final non-conference home game.
Trailing 9-0 in the bottom of the fourth the Bulldogs were finally able to get on the scoreboard when Luke Hanson (Escondido, CA) singled home Will Cell (Seattle, WA) who reached base on a leadoff walk.
The Bulldogs' second run came in the eighth. Tyler Preece (Bellevue, WA) and Cade McClelland (Mission Viejo, CA) led off the inning reaching base safely on a single and walk to begin the inning. Then after a walk to Cell, which loaded the bases Lucas Romero stepped in and just missed a grand slam as he hit a sacrifice fly to the wall in left that allowed Preece to score from third.
After a tough start from the pitching staff, Jack Brown (San Diego, CA) and John Hernandez (Fontana, CA) both came on and combined to throw 2.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
Redlands will return to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play this Friday, March 13 when they host the California Institute of Technology at 3:00 p.m. in a single game at The Yard.
