Tyler Reiter throws complete game in Redlands 11-1 win over Caltech

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Baseball team (8-10, 3-7 SCIAC) got back on track as they run-ruled the California Institute of Technology 11-1 Friday afternoon at The Yard.

Nathan Miller (San Jose, CA) got things going in the first inning when he singled up the middle and scoring Luke De Vries (Irvine, CA) who started the game with a single to left.

In the second Will Cell (Seattle, WA) made it 2-0 on an RBI-triple into right center that scored Kaiya Saito (Bellevue, WA).

Following a scoreless third, the Bulldogs got their third and fourth runs of the game as De Vries got another hit driving in Jake Burgess (Riverside, CA) for a 3-0 lead. Jared Anderson (Gilbert, AZ) then followed with a groundout to short as Saito scored for the second time.

The Beavers earned their lone run of the game in the sixth on an infield single. In the bottom of the inning, Anderson and Gabriel Ceja (Long Beach, CA) both had RBI hits with Ceja's bringing home Tyler Preece (Bellevue, WA) and Anderson for a 7-1 U of R lead.

In the seventh inning, the Bulldogs needed four runs to end the game with the 10-run rule. The inning started with an error and a Cell single before De Vries made it 8-1 on a sacrifice fly. Anderson then made it 9-1 with a single to right field.

After a flyout, Luke Hanson (Escondido, CA) doubled to left field on a ball that fooled the left fielder due to the high winds as Preece and Anderson scored to end the game at 11-1.

De Vries, Anderson, and Ceja all finished with three hits, while Preece, Miller, and Cell had two as the Bulldogs collected 17 hits on the day. Tyler Reiter (San Diego, CA) on the mound went seven innings with only one run allowed as he walked none with four strikeouts on 97 pitches for his fourth win.

Redlands will look for an important series sweep tomorrow with the first pitch of game one of the doubleheader at 11:00 a.m. in Pasadena.
