Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Redlands Women's Water Polo holds No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer to only 11 goals in home loss

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team (2-15, 1-3 SCIAC) held Pomona-Pitzer to their lowest goal total in an NCAA Division III game on Saturday morning at the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) but they would fall 11-5 after trailing by seven.

The Bulldogs trailed 7-0 early in the second quarter before they outscored the Sagehens 5-4 the remainder of the game.

In the second quarter Sofia Portello and Christine Chua each found the back of the net as Kaitlynn Pierceall (Beaumont, CA) and Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) both got the assists.

Portello got her second in the first minute of the third quarter, but Pomona-Pitzer would score two-straight within :39 seconds of each other as the deficit was seven again, 10-3.

Over the final 9:29 Anika Lundbaek (San Anselmo, CA) and Alyssa Sorrell (Highland, CA) were able to score as Chua and Courtney Sawin (Tacoma, WA) had the assists.

After allowing seven goals in the first nine minutes, the Bulldog defense conceded only three in the final 16 minutes.

Pierceall finished with an assist and four steals, Lucia Notaro (Thousand Oaks, CA) added four drawn exclusions, Portello had two goals, Sorrell scored once with two drawn exclusions, Parker did not score, but she had an assist and four drawn exclusions and in goal Evelyn Teeter (Westminster, CA) made six saves.

Redlands will host Occidental College on Wednesday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m. inside the TAC.
