Bulldog Women's Water Polo drops home matchup with No. 5 California Lutheran

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team (4-17, 3-5 SCIAC) lost 13-4 to No. 5 California Lutheran University (CLU) Wednesday night inside the Thompson Aquatic Center (TAC) as they trailed for the final 26 minutes.

Kaitlynn Pierceall got the Bulldogs started with a goal at the 5:39 mark of the first as she evened the score at one apiece.

The Bulldogs would fall behind 3-1 at the end of one and it was not until there was less than four minutes to play in the opening half that they picked up their second goal, which came on a powerplay from Anika Lundbaek (San Anselmo, CA) as they would go into the half down three, 5-2.

After scoring the final goal of the first half, Alyssa Sorrell (Highland, CA) found Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) for another powerplay goal as they drew within two, 5-3, early in the third.

In the first eleven minutes of the game Redlands conceded five goals but over the next six plus minutes they held CLU scoreless. The Regals, though, scored four unanswered goals over the final 4:33 of the third quarter as they held their largest lead of the game at six, 9-3.

For a second time in the second half, the Bulldogs got the opening goal of the quarter as Parker set up Sofia Portello (Sonoma, CA) in the first :50 seconds of the fourth.

That goal would be the lone score of the period for the U of R as the Regals went on another 4-0 run. The loss drops the Bulldogs from a tie for fifth with CLU down to sixth in the two teams' only meeting of 2024.

Paker finished with a goal, assist, and four drawn exclusions. Evelyn Teeter (Westminster, CA) made three saves and took possession away three times with steals.

The Bulldogs head to Claremontm CA to faceoff with No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, April 6 beginning at 11:00 a.m.
