Redlands Men’s Tennis opens NCAA Regional with 5-0 win over George Fox University

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team for the second time this season beat the Bruins of George Fox University winning 5-0 to advance to the NCAA Regional Final.

Redlands improves to 14-7, while George Fox University ends their season at 11-10.

Solid start for the Maroon and Grey as they went up quickly 3-0 following doubles.  MJ Abarca (Chula Vista, CA) and Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) took down their opponents at No. 2 winning 8-1 giving UR an early point.  Yoav Nir (Tel Aviv, Israel) and Nico Calixto (Cathedral City, CA) then made it 2-0 with an 8-4 win at the top spot.  The last point coming from Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) and Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, CA) at No, 3 who would win 8-3.

The Bruins created some pushback in singles taking sets in three of the six matches.  Anderson kept his impressive first season with the Bulldogs going using a break in each set to win 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2.  The clinch came at No. 5 from Nir who would go 6-1, 6-4.  The other matches on that were unfinished included Calixto at No. 1 who was up 6-2, 2-6, 3-0, Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) at No. 4 who was up 6-3, 5-5, Marcanth at No. 3 who was deadlocked at a set a piece 6-2, 4-6 and Jax Ledwith (West Linn, OR) at No. 6 who was in the same spot at a set apiece 3-6, 6-2.   
   
Redlands has a quick turn-around returning to the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on the campus of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday, May 11 when they take on top-ranked Claremont-M-S beginning at 10:00am.  The Bulldogs and Stags have played twice this season.  Redlands lost 6-3 during the SCIAC Regular Season and then fell 5-0 in the SCIAC Tournament final.
