MIDDLETOWN, CT – The University of Redlands Women's Tennis team opened up the NCAA Division III Regionals Friday morning beating Alfred University 5-0 to advance to the second round.
Redlands improves to 11-7 knocking out the Empire 8 Champions who end their season at 13-3.
It was a quick start for the Maroon and Grey who swept doubles winning 8-0, 8-1, 8-0.
Maegan Deng (Redondo Beach, CA) and
Livi Rockwood (Park City, UT) played at No. 1,
Gabby Rockwood and
Rayna Sugai (Las Vegas, NV) played at No. 2 and
Kiana Brady (Hermosa Beach, CA) and
Christine O'Brien (Leawood, KS) dropped down to No. 3.
In singles the Bulldogs kept their foot on the gas pedal clinching the win behind the duo of G. Rockwood who rolled 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and L. Rockwood at No. 2 who would roll 6-1, 6-0.
The other four matches that were still on included Deng at No. 1 who was up 6-0, 5-0, O'Brien at No. 4 who was up 6-0, 5-0,
Lindsay Whelan (Mercer Island, WA) at No. 5 who was up 6-0, 5-0 and
Madison Sherwood (Las Vegas, NV) who was up 6-1, 5-0.
Redlands has a quick turn-around returning to the John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts on the campus of Wesleyan University on Saturday, May 11 when they host take on University of Mary Washington in the second round. The Bulldogs played the Eagles once this season winning 9-0.
