Akroush nets a brace in Redlands 2-0 shutout of Occidental

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (5-3-1, 1-2 SCIAC) earned a bounce back 2-0 win against Occidental College Saturday morning at Farquhar Field picking up a big three points within the conference standings.

The Bulldogs had five looks on goal in the first half as Malia Kuhl (Seattle, WA), Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA), Caprial Loescher (Portland, OR), Faith Kasper (Menifee, CA), and Kelsey Williams (Murrieta, CA) all forced saves out of the Tiger keeper in the first 41 minutes before CJ Akroush (Pasadena, CA) scored her first of the game in the 42nd coming off a corner.

Anika Schmied (Santa Cruz, CA) took the ensuing kick, which found found Sami Salinas (Foothill Ranch, CA) who touched the ball to Akroush for her fifth goal of the season.

In the second half the Bulldogs extended their lead to two with Akroush's sixth of the season. The goal came off another corner this time started by Turiace who found the head of Jessica Chavez in the box, which hit the crossbar rebounding to Akroush for the finish.

Neither side tested the other's keeper the rest of the way as Redlands picked up their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) win of the season.

In goal Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) only needed to make two saves as she picked up the win.  Each team totaled 16 shots for the game with the Maroon and Grey putting 10 on goal along with adding six corner kicks.
