Bulldog Women's Soccer hits two crossbars but falls on the road at Chapman

ORANGE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (0-11-2, 0-7-1 SCIAC) fell 2-0 at Chapman University Wednesday afternoon in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition.

Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) was the first keeper to be called into action, and she was up to the task with a fourth-minute save.

Gianna Alati (Lake Oswego, OR) took a shot in the 13th minute for the Bulldogs, which was their first shot on target, but it was saved for a corner kick.

The next two shots of the game came from the Maroon and Grey with Jaiden Riodil (Tigard, OR) and Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) getting off looks. Riodil's forced a save as the game remained scoreless.

Stewart made one more save and Alati and Abbie Jackson (Claremont, CA) both had shots in the middle of goal, which were handled as the two sides ended the first 45 minutes still scoreless.

Less than four minutes into the second half the Panthers drew a penalty and converted it for what would become the eventual game-winning goal in the 49th minute.

Chapman had the first shot on goal after the penalty, but it was Anika Schmied (Santa Cruz, CA) and Brooke Ramirez (Yucaipa, CA) who would then get looks for UR but neither could beat the Panther keeper.

With the run of play going the Bulldogs' way, the Panthers got their second goal only :53 seconds after the Ramirez shot.

Following the 2-0 deficit Redlands was unable to test the Chapman keeper the rest of the game.

Redlands was outshot 17-10, but they were even with six shots on goal.

Stewart made four saves in just under 82 minutes before Nicole Immoos (San Luis Obispo, CA) came on and shut the Panthers out for the final eight minutes.

Redlands hosts No. 19 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) on homecoming this Saturday, October 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Farquhar Field.
