Bulldog Men's Soccer comes away with 1-1 draw at Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (3-5-2, 1-2-1 SCIAC) held a 1-0 lead at California Lutheran University (CLU) Wednesday evening with less than six minutes to play, but an own goal tied the game in the 88th minute as they settled for a 1-1 draw.

Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) made three saves in the opening 21 minutes, but he was not needed the final 24 as the Bulldogs' defense tightened. Nicolas Janssen (Park City, UT) was the lone player to put a shot on target for Redlands in the first 45 as they went into the break scoreless.

Yusef Mayet (Redondo Beach, CA), Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA), and Connor Claborn (Santa Clarita, CA) were all able to get shots on goal, while Bachman continued to make saves in a scoreless game through 83 minutes.

Finally, in the 85th, Claborn took advantage of a corner kick and found Benjamin Evans (Bend, OR) for what looked to be the game-winning goal.

Beckton tried to extend the lead and give the Bulldogs some breathing room in the 87th minute, but his attempt was saved. Just over a minute later Redlands scored an own goal that leveled the game at one.

Bachman would do well in the final minute plus as he made a save on a shot that would have won the game and given all three points to the Kingsmen, but he did his job to secure a road point.

Bachman was nearly perfect with nine saves with the only ball beating him was off a touch from his own player.

Redlands hosts Occidental College on Saturday, October 4 at 7:00 p.m. in game two of a doubleheader with the women's team who plays at 4:00 p.m.
