REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (0-8-2, 0-4-1 SCIAC) dropped a close game 1-0 to Occidental College Saturday afternoon despite hitting the crossbar twice.
The first of those hit crossbars came from the Tigers only :25 seconds into the game. Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) and Gianna Alati (Lake Oswego, OR) both tested the Occidental keeper in the sixth and ninth minutes, but neither were able to get an early tally for the Maroon and Grey.
Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA) also had her shot from distance clank the crossbar as she had all the power needed to score, just could not bar it in.
The rest of the half saw Jaiden Riodil (Tigard, OR) have a shot saved and Alati hit the crossbar for the second time for Redlands. Her shot came on a long-range attempt that surprised the keeper forcing her not to be able to fully cover the goal.
After a scoreless first half Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) did her part to keep it that way in the first 15 minutes of the second making three saves.
In the 72nd minute, though, the Tigers finally broke through as a pass hit an attacker in the box where they were able to turn and slot home what would be the eventual game-winner.
Stewart made one final save in the 85th, but the Bulldogs failed to put any attempts on target the rest of the game.
Stewart finished with six saves and Jessica Chavez (Cayucos, CA) and Riodil each had a team-high three shots.
Redlands now welcomes in the No. 8 ranked team in the country Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) Wednesday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m.
