REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (0-9-2, 0-5-1 SCIAC) dropped a 2-0 decision at Farquhar Field against No. 7 Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) Wednesday evening.
The Bulldogs fell behind in the first six minutes when they conceded a goal that came following a shot and save by U of R goalkeeper Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA). The rebound then deflected off to a waiting Sagehen who finished.
Stewart made saves in the 13th and 21st minutes to keep the game at 1-0 before Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA) had Redlands' first attempt on target in the 23rd. One final Stewart save in the 42nd sent the two teams into the break with a one-goal differential.
Much like the first half the Bulldogs once again conceded early on in the second as they went behind 2-0 in the 55th minute. Stewart came out on a shot in the box deflecting the ball up in the air, but it maintained enough forward momentum to cross the line moving the score to 2-0.
Following six saves by Stewart in the second half, CJ Akroush (Pasadena, CA) had a go from distance, but she was unable to get enough power behind it to make any more than a routine catch in goal.
Four more Stewart saves kept the scoreline at 2-0 as the Bulldogs were unable to test the backup Sagehen keeper the rest of the game.
Stewart made the final score competitive posting 13 saves. Turiace and Akroush had the lone two shots on target.
The Bulldogs will head on the road to face off with Whittier College this Saturday at 5 p.m.
