CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (3-5-3, 1-3-2 SCIAC) trailed 2-0 before two goals in the final ten minutes earned them a 2-2 draw Wednesday evening at Pomona-Pitzer (P-P).
The Sagehens led 2-0 at the half with the lone attempts for the Bulldogs coming from Yusef Mayet (Redondo Beach, CA), Anthony Sena (Henderson, NV), and Benjamin Legrand (Las Vegas, NV). Legrand's shot with just over a minute remaining in the half was the only look on target.
Mayet took the first shot of the second half for Redlands nearly 25 minutes into the period forcing the second Sagehen save of the game.
Just over ten minutes later Connor Claborn (Santa Clarita, CA) found the head of Benjamin Evans (Bend, OR) who finished off a corner kick flicking it in past the PP keeper to make it 2-1.
The final shot of the game for Redlands came from Sena who found the back of the net with only :38 seconds remaining. Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) crossed a low ball in finding Mateo Ambriz's (Ontario, CA) feet inside the corner of the box by the endline. Ambriz then turned and put a cross into the box, which deflected off Jacob White's (Fontana, CA) shoulder falling to the back post for Sena who finished on the back side net.
Despite the four total goals on the night there were not that many scoring opportunities as the two teams combined for 17 total shots with nine being on target.
Sena finished with two shots on target, Evans, Legrand, and Mayet each had one. Seth Lawrence (Redlands, CA) made the start and allowed both goals, while Jason Salmeron (Winnetka, CA) played the final 45 and was not asked to make any stops.
Redlands return home for a 7:00 p.m. game against Whittier College this Saturday, October 11 beginning at Farquhar Field.
