Redlands Men's Basketball wins home opener over Pacific (Ore.) 108-80

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Basketball team (3-0) ended up cruising past Pacific University (Oregon) 108-80 thanks to a plus 20-point second half in their home opener inside Currier Gym Friday night.

Lucas Gordon (San Marcos, CA) made a three off a Chozen Amadi (Richardson, TX) assist and Jake Hlywiak (Valencia, CA) scored in the first minute and a half for an early 5-2 U of R lead as the Bulldogs never trailed in the game.

Redlands' first 10-point lead came at the 16:03 mark when Donovan Ware (Palmdale, CA) found Nathan Mattera (Fontana, CA) for a fastbreak triple. The lead grew to as many as 15, 37-22, with 9:01 to play off another Gordon jumper.

Just two minutes later, though, the Boxers finished off a 13-4 run that pulled them within two possessions, 41-35. Then with the lead down to four, 52-48, Jhace Boston (Bakersfield, CA) got into the paint and scored followed by Mattera converting on a pair of free throws for a 56-48 Bulldog halftime lead.

An 11-3 run in the opening three minutes of the second half extended the lead for the U of R to 16, 67-51. During the run Gordon had five points, Cam Brown (Bakersfield, CA) with four, and Derek Sangster (Sunnyvale, CA) another two.

Redlands maintained that double-digit lead the remainder of the game as they stayed undefeated on the season.

Gordon had a big night with 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting and nine rebounds. Boston quietly had 18 points and five rebounds in only 19 minutes played. Omari Ferguson (Chicago, Ill.), Hlywiak, Sangster, and Brown also scored in double figures.

Redlands goes back to back hosting Schreiner University Saturday, November 15 beginning at 7:00pm.
