AVCA All-Region Release
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced their All-Region honorees Wednesday with the University of Redlands' First-Year Outside Hitter Lily Kautai (San Mateo, CA) earning Region 10 Honorable Mention recognition.
Kautai is the first Bulldog since Megan Phillips and Jackie Hamilton in 2010 to earn AVAC All-Region honors. She is also the first freshman in program history to be voted All-Region too. She adds the honor on top of her First-Team All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and SCIAC Newcomer of the Year honors.
She led the Bulldogs this season with 321 kills, 382.5 points, and 52 service aces. She was second on the team with 349 digs and added another 17 blocks.
Her 321 kills are fifth-most in single-season program history and her 52 aces ranks third.
At the end of August against University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) she had seven aces, the fifth-most in single-match program history. In September she had 22 kills against Linfield University, which was the 19th-most.
Her strong freshman season, along with a roster made up of mostly underclassmen, led the Bulldogs to their first SCIAC Tournament appearance and win since 2009.
