CAGUAS, Puerto Rico – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (6-1, 1-0 SCIAC) won their second of two games at the Puerto Rico Clasico Thursday as they beat Montclair State University (MSU), 65-47 extending their winning streak to four games.
The Red Hawks held a six-point lead, 10-4, with less than five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Leila Hosn (Seattle, WA) and AJ Wick (Henderson, NV), though, combined for four quick points apart of an 11-4 run that gave the Bulldogs a one-point lead, 15-14, after the opening ten minutes.
Teagan McIlroy (Phoenix, AZ) and Carly Hicks (Portland, OR) had three points in the first two minutes of the second quarter to give Redlands their largest lead of the game, 18-14.
Then in the final two minutes MSU closed the gap from five to two, 26-24, before Hosn found Andrea Perkins (Seal Beach, CA) for a three-pointer that gave the U of R a five-point halftime lead, 29-24.
Redlands broke open a competitive game in the third quarter when they took a six-point lead and extended it to 15 over the final 3:48. Hosn, McIlroy, and Colbi Zorich (Woodinville, WA) had buckets during the run, while Olivia McIntyre (Spokane, WA) added another six points.
The Bulldogs led by double figures for the entire fourth quarter holding the Red Hawks to 10 points on 30% shooting.
It was a balanced effort with 11 different Bulldogs scoring. McIntyre led the way with a career-high 14 points. Zorich and Hosn also scored in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.
After an 11-day break, the Bulldogs will head to Las Vegas where they play two games against Wesleyan University and Bridgewater State University on December 29 and 30 during the D3hoops.com Classic taking placing at South Pointe Arena.
