Colbi Zorich reaches 1,000 career points as Redlands Women's Basketball rolls past UC Santa Cruz

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (4-1) cruised past UC Santa Cruz (UCSC) 62-43 Saturday afternoon inside Currier Gym where Colbi Zorich (McMinnville, OR) became the 12th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.

In a slow first quarter the Bulldogs found themselves trailing by six, 8-2, with less than five minutes to play before Andrea Perkins (Seal Beach, CA) found Zorich for her second jumper of the game sparking an 8-0 Bulldog run putting them ahead by three, 11-8, less than three minutes later.

It was a back-and-forth second quarter with each team holding leads before another eight unanswered gave the Bulldogs the lead at the half, 26-19.

At the 7:04 mark of the third quarter Zorich pulled down an offensive rebound and scored in the paint to make it an 11-point lead bringing her career point total to an even 1,000.

The lead then grew to as many as 19 after Leila Hosn (Seattle, WA) got into the paint in the final minute helping the Bulldogs take a 49-32 lead into the final quarter.

In her first game back from a season-ending injury last year, Aliyah Anderson (Oceanside, CA) made a jumper in the paint for the first two points of a 7-0 U of R run that started the fourth quarter.

Hosn finished with a game-high 14 points along with hauling in eight rebounds and dishing out five assists. Zorich finished with 10 points and five rebounds.

Despite the dominant win, the offense only shot 31.4 percent from the field, but they did finish with a 14-7 offensive rebound advantage and committed 20 fewer turnovers, which afforded them 24 more field goals attempts.

For the game Redlands finished with 23 points off turnovers, received 24 bench points, 30 points in the paint, and 13 fastbreak points.

Redlands now travels to Puerto Rico where they play Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) and Montclair State University on December 17-18.
