REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Tennis team dropped a tough 6-1 decision to No. 4 Denison University Tuesday night inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs fell behind early 1-0 after doubles getting swept in all three positions.
MJ Abarca (San Diego, CA) and
Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, OR) fell 6-1 at No. 2,
Zac Nakajima (Beaverton, OR) and
Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) dropped a tight 6-4 decision at No. 3 and the top team of
Jack Fanshawe (Brisbane, Australia) and
Vitomir Petcov (Portland, OR) would get broken late 7-5.
In singles three of six matches went the distance with one going the way of the Maroon and Grey. The lone point coming from Whittington at No. 5 who would take his match 7-5, 4-6, 10-6. Anderson also went to a third-set breaker and despite fighting from a set down would fall 6-3, 3-6, 10-3. The other three-setter came from
Josh Davydov (Bellevue, WA) at No. 4 who took the opening set 6-4 before dropping the next two 3-6, 4-10.
Petcov ran into a tough test at No. 2 falling in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.
Jack Hinkle (Bountiful, UT) at No. 3 would threaten but could not extend the match as he would fall 6-4, 7-5. The other match on came at No. 6 from Abarca who after grabbing three games in the first set would drop 6-3, 6-0.
Redlands returns to the court with a short turnaround as they host No. 13 Amherst College on Wednesday, March 19 beginning at 5:00pm also inside the Verdieck Tennis Center.
