PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team (1-17, 0-6 SCIAC) got off to a great start at Caltech Wednesday evening thanks to a pair of Alyssa Sorrell (Highland, CA) goals. But the Beavers would battle back coming away with the 10-8 victory.
Following the Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) and Anika Lundbaek (San Anselmo, CA) assisted, Sorrell goals, Caltech finished off the first quarter with three of the final four goals as the game was tied at three after eight minutes. The third Bulldog goal came from Lucia Notaro (Thousand Oaks, CA) on a powerplay.
In the second quarter the Beavers looked to try and create some breathing room leading by two, 6-4, with :10 seconds remaining in the opening half. The Bulldogs, however, got a goal from goalkeeper Aubree Nabors (Conroe, TX) with a second on the clock to keep the UR within one.
In the third Redlands did not find the back of the net, but their defense conceded only two goals as they had a manageable three-goal deficit, 8-5, heading into the eight minutes.
The scoreless drought lasted nearly 11 minutes as Parker's goal at the 5:11 mark of the fourth quarter was the first tally of the second half as the Maroon and Grey trailed by four, 10-6, after the Beavers scored twice to begin the fourth.
Over the final 3:19 Christine Chua (Arcadia, CA) beat the keeper twice, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs fell by two.
Adding to her goal, Nabors finished with 11 saves on 21 shots on goal faced for a .524 save percentage. Sorrell and Chua each netted braces, while Parker assisted on a pair of goals. Defensively Parker added a drawn exclusion and three steals.
Redlands returns home to the Thompson Aquatic Center for a Friday night Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game against No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer at 7:00 p.m.
