REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team (1-18, 0-7 SCIAC) was within six goals of No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer in the third quarter, but they were unable to get any closer in a 14-5 loss at the Thompson Aquatic Center Friday night.
Following a 4-0 start by the Sagehens, Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) found the back of the net two times in the final three minutes as the Bulldogs trailed 5-2 after one.
Redlands had a lull offensively in the second quarter as they were held scoreless, while conceding four goals.
In the third they were able to go on a 3-1 run, which cut the deficit to six, 11-5, with 2:09 still to play. The goals came from Teagan May (Carlsbad, CA), off a Katelyn Dwelley (Wildomar, CA) assist, and then Parker and Dwelley were able score within a minute of each other.
The final 9:49, though, saw Pomona-Pitzer score three times, while keeping the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.
The Bulldogs were great in the opening quarters of each half as they were only minus three goals, 8-5, while they were outscored 6-0 in the final quarters of each half.
Parker had a massive game, scoring three times and assisting on a fourth goal, drawing an exclusion, and stealing possession seven times, a career high. In goal Aubree Nabors (Conroe, TX) made seven saves and had a steal.
Redlands travels to California Lutheran University this Wednesday, April 2 for an afternoon game beginning at 4:00 p.m.
