U of R Women's Water Polo tallies 10 goals in road loss at Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team (1-19, 0-8 SCIAC) displayed the offense in a 20-10 road loss at California Lutheran University (CLU) Wednesday afternoon.

Trailing 4-0 with less than three minutes to play in the opening quarter Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) and Alyssa Sorrell (Highland, CA) got the Bulldogs back in the game with goals to cut the deficit to two.

After a 3-0 Regal run, Kennedy Mobley (Wildomar, CA) then finished off a powerplay. Gianna Ratto (Santa Rosa, CA) would make it a 2-1 Bulldog run at the minute mark of the first half with UR down four, 8-4.

In the third Redlands had their best offensive quarter, beating CLU's keeper four times. The opening goal of the half came off a Sorrell assist when she found Anika Lundbaek (San Anselmo, CA) for a powerplay connection.

A 6-0 Regal run though put the game out of reach.  Sorrell, Christine Chua (Arcadia, CA), and Lucia Notaro (Thousand Oaks, CA) combined for three goals across the final 1:30 as Redlands was able to score three of the four ensuing goals, drawing within eight, 16-8. Nora Jackson (Palatine, Ill.) picked up her first assist of the game on Chua's late goal in the third.

In the closing eight minutes the Bulldogs were able to shut out the Regals for the final four minutes, while Katelyn Dwelley (Wildomar, CA) and Chua tallied a goal each.

Sorrell, Chua, and Mobley all had multi-point afternoons. Defensively Dwelley, Teagan May (Carlsbad, CA), Notaro, Sorrell, Jackson, and Parker all drew exclusions. In goal Aubree Nabors (Conroe, TX) made four saves.

Redlands returns to the Thompson Aquatic Center this Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. when they host Occidental College for senior day honoring Chua, Lundbaek, and Parker.
