REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (1-3-1) returned home for their first regular season game at Farquhar Field after four games on the east coast taking on Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rival Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) to a 2-2 draw in a non-conference game.
In the 22nd minute the Sagehens took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick. The Bulldogs would respond well with the next four shots coming from Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA), Zachary Darmanyan (San Diego, CA), Benjamin Evans (Bend, OR), and Gavin Facer (Murrieta, CA).
Ten minutes after conceding the go-ahead goal, Darmanyan cut into the 18-yard box from the left side where he would find space before taking a shot from the top left corner of the box and finishing to the far right corner of the net to equalize in the 32nd minute.
After a slow start to the second half, the Bulldogs had a bad throw in their own defensive third, which P-P took advantage of ripping a shot that hit off the right post and in giving PP a 2-1 lead in the 78th minute.
Less than a minute and a half later the Bulldogs responded drawing their own penalty. Beckton stepped to the spot and converted for his fourth of the season leveling the game once again.
Over the final 12 minutes neither team put a shot on target as the two sides settled for a draw that does not count in the SCIAC standings.
Darmanyan had a very active night with six shots, five of which were on target. Team wise the Bulldogs outshot the Sagehens 17-8, while P-P had two more corners.
On Thursday, September 18 at 7:00 p.m. the Bulldogs play host to UC Santa Cruz on Farquhar Field.
