Redlands Men's Soccer breaks out offensively with 3-1 win over UC Santa Cruz

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (2-3-1) won their first home game of the season as they beat University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) 3-1 Thursday night at Farquhar Field.

In the sixth minute the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard thanks to Benjamin Evans (Bend, OR) who took a throw-in a few yards away from the corner flag sending the ball into the box where it bounced before finding Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) who then got a piece of it with his head for his fifth goal of the season.

The offense continued to roll in the 24th minute capitalizing on a Banana Slugs turnover this time with Beckton holding possession just outside the box on the left side. He slid a pass wide to Gavin Facer (Murrieta, CA) who took a touch before sending it into the box where he found Zachary Darmanyan (San Diego, CA) who volleyed it into the back of the net for his second of the season and a 2-0 U of R lead.

Ten minutes into the second half the Bulldogs earned possession just inside of midfield before Connor Claborn (Santa Clarita, CA) sent a long pass along the right side to Taylor Bell (Highland, CA) who squared the ball to Facer who then one-touched it into the back of the net for his first collegiate goal and a 3-0 Bulldog advantage.

UCSC pulled one back in the 80th minute, but the Bulldogs did not allow another shot on goal the rest of the way as they won their first game since their season opener in New Jersey.

Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) made three saves in 90 minutes. Redlands had two fewer shots but put three more on target.

The Bulldogs head to Pasadena on Saturday, September 20 for their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener against the California Institute of Technology beginning at 2:00 p.m.
