U of R Women's Soccer concedes late goal in road loss at Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (0-5-1) outshot California Institute of Technology (Caltech) 28-5 Saturday morning but lost 1-0 on a last second goal by the Beavers in their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener.

In the first 22 minutes the Bulldogs had seven shot attempts and held the Beavers without one as both Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA) and Sabrina Semmere (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) forced saves.

Semmere and Claire August (Mountlake Terrace, WA) forced two more saves soon after and Nicole Immoos (San Luis Obispo, CA) made a stop on the lone shot on target by Caltech as the two sides went into the half scoreless.

Redlands came out of the half firing, putting four shots on goal in the first 14 minutes as Turiace and Semmere each recorded looks that were on goal, but again the Caltech keeper was up to the task stopping both and keeping the game scoreless.

The rest of the game the Bulldogs held a 14-2 shot advantage with Caprial Loescher (Portland, OR), Turiace, Gianna Alati (Lake Oswego, OR), Semmere, Kelsey Williams (Murrieta, CA), and Laura Bagley's (Bend, OR) attempts all being thwarted through 89 minutes.

With :45 seconds left the Beavers got their first shot since the 64th minute, but it was wide left of the goal. Then in the final seconds Caltech was the last team to get a look on goal, which they took advantage of, scoring with only two seconds left in the game.

The Bulldogs had possession on the left side of their defensive half. A pass into the middle of the field was undercut, which sparked a counterattack. The Beavers passed it wide and one-timed it into the box where a free runner scored.

Overall, it was 28-5 in favor of Redlands in shots, 14-2 in shots on target, and 4-0 on corner kicks.

The Bulldogs host the University of La Verne next Wednesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m.
