LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (3-4-1, 1-1-0 SCIAC) picked up their first Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) win of the year as they beat the University of La Verne (ULV) 2-1 Wednesday evening.
Following seven plus minutes with no shots taken, Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) found Zachary Darmanyan (San Diego, CA) late in the eighth giving UR an early 1-0 lead.
Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) was not forced to make any stops in goal for the Bulldogs, while Taylor Bell (Highland, CA) and Yusef Mayet (Redondo Beach, CA) each had an attempt saved, which sent the two sides into the half with Redlands leading 1-0.
After not needing to make a stop in the first half, Bachman made three of them in the first 18 minutes, which eventually gave Connor Claborn (Santa Clarita, CA) the opportunity to win the game finishing off a Beckton assist in the 69th minute for a 2-0 Bulldog lead.
In the 83rd minute, however, the Leopards got back into the game with a goal, cutting the deficit to one. But the rest of the way Bachman had to make just one save the rest of the game coupled with the Bulldog defensive unit closing out the win.
It was a competitive game across the board with Redlands holding a slim 11-10 shot advantage, the two sides were tied with five shots on target, La Verne had four corners to Redlands' three, and the Leopards were whistled for two more fouls (8-6).
Redlands now prepares to host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) this Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 p.m. in a game between the top two teams in the SCIAC standings from 2024.
