Bulldog Women's Soccer held scoreless at Claremont-M-S

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Soccer team (0-6-2, 0-2-1 SCIAC) conceded a goal in the first minute eventually falling 4-0 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) Saturday night.

Twenty-eight seconds after the opening whistle the Athenas took the lead with what would be the eventual game-winning goal.

Shannon Stewart (San Jose, CA) got the start and after making a save to keep the game at 1-0, Claire August (Mountlake Terrace, WA) and Natalie Turiace (San Dimas, CA) each got shots away, though, both were handled by the CMS keeper.

Stewart denied CMS two more times before they took a 2-0 lead in the 41st minute as the two teams went into the half with the same scoreline.

Kiera Hunt (Stony Brook, NY) put the Bulldogs in position to cut the deficit in half a minute and a half into the second period, but her shot was saved.

CMS took advantage in the 56th minute tacking on another goal to make it 3-0.

Despite four late saves to keep the Athenas from adding insurance, by that point they had scored their fourth goal in the 78th minute.

Stewart took advantage of her first start of the season finishing with 10 saves after playing the full 90:00 minutes.

In their return to Farquhar Field, the Bulldogs host No. 22 California Lutheran University (CLU) on Wednesday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m.
