NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (1-3-0) lost their second 2-1 game in as many days as they fell at Christopher Newport University (CNU) Sunday afternoon.
Taylor Bell (Highland, CA) forced the first save of the game in the 17th minute, but less than a minute later it was the Captains who would score coming off a header finish.
Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) continued his strong defensive efforts in goal as he kept the Bulldogs close with three saves in two minutes as CNU looked to consolidate the opening tally.
One final Bachman save and multiple missed attempts by both sides sent the two teams into the half with CNU up 1-0.
Six minutes into the second 45 saw Gavin Facer (Murrieta, CA) get his second assist in as many games finding Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) on the back post for his third goal of the season.
Both teams played a little more carefully from then on combining for four shots between the goal and the 70th minute. In that 70th minute the Captains put away another header, this time coming off a long throw in for what would be the game-winning goal.
Much like Saturday at Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU), the Bulldogs were never able to get into rhythm after falling behind in the second half as Beckton's attempt that was saved in the 87th minute was the lone look they earned in the final 26 minutes.
Redlands returns home to host Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) for a non-conference game on Saturday, September 13 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
