Redlands Men's Soccer begins Virginia trip with narrow 2-1 loss at Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The University of Redlands Men's Soccer team (1-2-0) put themselves behind early when they conceded a goal in the first two minutes at Virginia Wesleyan University (VWU) Saturday afternoon in what would be a 2-1 road loss.

Brady Bachman (San Diego, CA) was forced into a save less than a minute into the game after the opening kickoff and less than a minute later he was beat for an early goal in the second minute.

The Bulldogs, though, quickly responded as Gavin Facer (Murrieta, CA) found Yusef Mayet (Redondo Beach, CA) for the equalizer in the 11th minute.

Between the 16th and 19th minutes Bachman made another three saves as the Marlins tried to reclaim their lead.

After four Bachman stops and goals by either side, there was only one more shot on target the remainder of the opening 45 minutes as the two sides went into the break tied at one.

In a what must have felt like déjà vu, Bachman made a save :21 seconds into the second half before VWU scored the eventual game-winning goal later in the opening minute coming off a corner.

Despite needing a second goal, the Bulldogs failed to find the target as they managed only two shots the rest of the way, none of which tested the Marlin keeper.

Bachman kept Redlands in the game with seven saves, while his counterpart did not need to make a stop.

Redlands completes their fourth consecutive road game at Christopher Newport University (CNU) Sunday, September 7 at 11:00am PST.
