Bulldog Swimming & Diving celebrate seniors in dual meet against Pomona-Pitzer

REDLANDS, Calif. - The University of Redlands swimming and diving teams competed against Pomona-Pitzer in a dual meet Saturday where they recognized their 2025-26 Bulldog Senior Class, which included Ethan Chir (Henderson, NV), Jay Deng (Seattle, WA), Niko Lucore (Highland, CA), Tommy Marquez (Salinas, CA), Cole Goyette, Mackenzie Neese (Folsom, CA) and Ella Suazo (Littleton, CO).
Both Bulldog squads showed competitive spirit and determination throughout the competition but would ultimately fall to the Sagehens (Men: 165-105) (Women: 177-107). 

Men's Team Highlights

Event Victories
The Bulldog men secured multiple event wins throughout the competition:
200 Freestyle Relay: Tim Jensen (Elmhurst, Ill.), Kadyn Butcher (Vancouver, WA), Joey Madigan (Arlington, VA), and Chir combined for a first-place finish in 1:28.43, showcasing the team's relay strength.
500 Freestyle: Madigan captured first place with a time of 4:51.74, demonstrating excellent endurance and pacing.
100 Butterfly: Sebas Maccalla (Altadena, CA) touched first in 58.79 seconds, showing strong technique and speed in the fly.
400 IM: Landynn Olivas (El Centro, CA) dominated the grueling individual medley with a winning time of 4:38.07, displaying versatility across all four strokes.

Strong Performances
Tim Jensen had an outstanding meet, finishing second in both the 100 Breast (57.12) and 200 Breast (2:08.28), while also contributing to the winning 200 Free Relay.
Ethan Chir placed second in the 200 Breast (2:07.11) and third in the 100 Breast (57.75), demonstrating consistency in his stroke specialty.
Flynn Bayne competed well in backstroke events, taking fourth in the 100 Back (53.80) and second in the 200 Back (2:03.40).
Will Coziahr (Chula Vista, CA) showed tremendous endurance in distance events, placing third in the 1650 Free (19:12.81) and fifth in the 500 Free (5:22.88).
Kadyn Butcher contributed solid swims in the 100 Free (51.08, 6th) and 100 Back (58.26, 6th), plus anchored relay efforts.

Women's Team Highlights

Event Victories
The Bulldogs earned several event wins and demonstrated competitive performances throughout the meet:
200 Freestyle Relay: Brooklyn Green, Clare Carroll (Jamestown, RI), Lina Matera (Hingham, MA), and Avery Wells (Seattle, WA) teamed up for a first-place finish in 1:44.89.
100 Butterfly: Athena Fitzgerald (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) claimed victory with a time of 1:07.55, outpacing the field in the fly.
400 IM: Rylie Kohl (Eastvale, CA) won the demanding individual medley in 5:18.38, showcasing her all-around swimming ability.

Diving Excellence
Sydney Kerns (West Covina, CA) had an exceptional day on the boards, winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 179.70 and placing third on the 1-meter (166.55).
Ayanna Leal (Las Cruces, N.M.) contributed valuable points with a third-place finish on the 3-meter (124.85) and a second place finish on the 1-meter (169.40).

Strong Performances
Lina Matera competed well across multiple events, placing fourth in the 100 Back (1:02.56), fourth in the 500 Free (5:42.83), and swimming on the winning 200 Free Relay.
Clare Carroll showed versatility with a fourth-place finish in the 50 Free (25.74), fifth in the 100 Free (56.45), and a leg on the victorious relay.
Avery Wells earned valuable points with a third-place finish in the 50 Free (25.70), fourth in the 100 Free (56.41), and helped secure the relay win.
Kileigh Ackerman (Evergreen, CO) competed strongly in the backstroke, finishing fifth in the 100 Back (1:02.81) and second in the 200 Back (2:14.44).
Athena Fitzgerald proved her versatility beyond her butterfly win, placing fifth in the 100 Breast (1:14.26) and third in the 200 Breast (2:39.33).
Ana-Adela Duran (Albuquerque, N.M.) showed endurance in distance events with fourth-place finishes in both the 200 Free (2:12.36) and 200 Back (2:22.29).

Redlands remains in conference action next Saturday, January 31when they travel to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps beginning at 10:30am.
