U of R Swim and Dive complete SCIAC Championships both finishing in eighth place

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – The University of Redlands swimming and diving teams completed their fourth and final day at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships where the men tallied 48 points and the women 38 in route to a pair of eighth place finishes.

Men

The Bulldogs finished with 187 points. They got new top 10 times in program history from Joseph Madigan and Tim Jensen.

Madigan took 10th in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:29.57 which earned the Bulldogs seven points. The time is the new 10th-fastest for the Bulldogs. William Coziahr swam 18:10.03 and took 16th in the race which added an extra point.

Ethan Chir was the lone competitor to make an A final which he did in his best race, the 200 breaststroke. He finished seventh (2:04.50) and collected 12 points.

Jensen also swam the 200 breast where he took 13th as part of the B final. His time of 2:07.67 is the seventh-fastest time in program history. His finish netted Redlands four points.

Redlands' 400 free relay team of Kadyn Butcher, Chir, Madigan, and Jensen took eighth in 3:10.44, good for 22 points. Their team in the B final took 16th overall as Finn Mutuc, Connor O'Sullivan, Noah Tikoo, and David Basa swam 3:16.62 for two points.

Women

The Bulldog women finished their championship with 176 total points. Their first points of the final day came from Kileigh Ackerman in the 200 backstroke when she took 16th in 2:11.46 which scored a point.

Clare Carroll then swam the B final of the 100 free. She took 13th (54.04) and added another four points to the Bulldogs' total. Avery Wells finished one spot behind her and scored three points after finishing in 54.14.

The final individual scorer on Saturday was Rylie Kohl who scored two points in the 200 fly (2:28.96).

In the 400 free relay the Bulldogs got 26 points from Brooklyn Green, Carroll, Lina Matera, and Wells who combined for a 3:40.15. Their second team of Ella Suazo, Athena Fitzgerald, Aubree Nabors, and Kaile Itow were in the B final. They totaled two points after a 16th overall finish and a time of 3:47.06.
