Redlands Women's Basketball maintains momentum | Extends winning streak to seven with win over Pomona-Pitzer on the road

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team (9-1, 2-0 SCIAC) returned to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Saturday afternoon winning their seventh in-a-row with a 71-58 road win at Pomona-Pitzer (P-P).

AJ Wick (Henderson, NV) and Colbi Zorich (Woodinville, WA) got the Bulldogs out to a quick 6-0 lead. Redlands then extended that advantage to 13, 19-6, after Leila Hosn (Seattle, WA) found Carly Hicks (Portland, OR) for a three-pointer.

In the opening minute and a half of the second quarter Aliyah Anderson (Oceanside, CA) had four points and put Redlands back ahead by double figures, 25-14. P-P, though, scored the next four points to cut the deficit to seven.  Zorich then followed quickly with four points and Avery Shiring (Yorba Linda, CA) and Hosn would each add buckets to give the Bulldogs their largest lead of the game, 35-20.

Despite the strong middle part of the quarter, the Bulldogs conceded a 10-0 Sagehen run over the final 3:24, while seeing their offense held scoreless for nearly five minutes as the lead was cut back to five, 35-30, at the half.

Across the first six plus minutes of the second half P-P extended their run from the first half to 23-4 finding themselves in front by four, 43-39.

Olivia McIntyre (Spokane, WA) then got to the line and made both before Teagan McIlroy (Phoenix, AZ) found herself in the paint following a turnover that tied the game at 43-43. Those four unanswered points sparked a stretch where the Maroon and Grey would score 11 of 15 points going back in front after 30 minutes, 50-47.

After struggling on both ends of the floor in the third, the U of R offense scored 15 points and allowed only six in the first eight and a half minutes of the fourth, which put them ahead by 12, 65-43, helping them seal the hard fought SCIAC road win.

Redlands was fantastic in the first and fourth quarters, outscoring P-P by 19 points.  They added 32 points in the paint, 16 fastbreak points, and added 19 points off turnovers.  They also finished the game shooting 45% from the field.

Wick finished with a game-high 19 points and added six rebounds. Hosn once again flirted with a triple double, missing it by two rebounds (8) and two assists (8), while adding 12 points across 31 minutes.  Zorich posted 14 points on 4-of-9 shooting and McIIroy despite only four points would put together two steals, three assists and nine rebounds.

The Bulldogs will be back inside Currier Gym next Wednesday, January 7 at 7:00 p.m. for a match-up against the California Institute of Technology.
