WHITTIER, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's soccer team (8-1-4, 5-0-2 SCIAC) used two goals in the first 12 minutes of the game to take down Whittier College, 2-1, on the road Saturday evening.
In the fourth minute Zachary Darmanyan (San Diego, CA) found Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) for a 1-0 lead. Thomas Lyden (Thornwood, NY) slipped a ball through to Darmanyan on the right side. He then took a touch past the defender and squared a ball to Beckton in the middle of the box who dove for the ball slotting it home for a quick U of R lead.
Nine minutes later Beckton returned the favor, finding Darmanyan who passed the ball into the right corner of the net for a 2-0 lead in the 13th-minute.
In the 33rd and 41st-minutes Jaden Nisperos (San Diego, CA) made two saves to the right of goal to keep the Bulldogs out in front heading into the half.
Out of the break, Jared Keyvan (Costa Mesa, CA) put a shot on target but it did not put the keeper in danger in the 55th. Nisperos then made two more saves in the 60th and 77th-minutes to keep the 2-0 lead.
Whittier, though, found their first in the 84th, but not a single other shot would find its way on target across the final six minutes as Redlands moved their unbeaten streak to eight games, while holding firm onto the top spot within the conference standings.
Redlands heads to red-hot Chapman University this Wednesday, October 14 at 4:00 p.m. when they play the Panthers who have won their last two and currently sit third in the standings with 13 points.
