Bulldog Women's Soccer scores three first half goals in win over Chapman

REDLANDS, Calif. – Three different Bulldogs scored across 15 minutes in the opening half to lead the University of Redlands women's soccer team (4-9, 3-5 SCIAC) to a 3-1 victory over Chapman University Wednesday evening at Farquhar Field.

A Nicole Immoos (San Luis Obispo, CA) save in the 17th minute was the lone shot on target for more than 18 minutes until Kate Wagner (San Jose, CA) scored her first career goal.

Maddie Wallner (Littleton, CO) dribbled the ball up the end line towards the middle of the field. She then attempted a pass to an oncoming teammate, but it was cut off by a Panther defender. That defender, though, passed it into the middle of the six-yard box where Wagner was running and she flicked the ball out of the air with her right foot into the goal to make it 1-0.

Less than five minutes later it was Claire Lucas (Tacoma, WA), who again after a defensive deflection, took a shot from just outside the penalty area, finding the far right post where the ball deflected off and in for a 2-0 advantage in the 24th minute.

With no additional shots testing either keeper for 10 minutes, Claire August (Mountlake Terrace, WA) had an opportunity in the 34th minute and she capitalized flicking a ball off her head into the goal off a free kick taken by Faith Kasper (Menifee, CA).

After a Chapman foul, Kasper floated a ball towards the back post where August flicked it backwards getting the ball just inside the left post for a 3-0 lead.

After not needing to make a save for 18 minutes, Immoos made four over the final 11 to keep the 3-0 lead intact at the break.

Immoos saw the Panthers take 16 shots to begin the second half but needed to save only five of them as most were long range efforts that were not dangerous. Chapman, however, finally converted one of their chances in the 76th minute to give themselves just under 15 minutes to score two more to try and save a point.

Four more Immoos saves, and more attempts that were off target, and the Bulldogs secured the 3-1 win, their first over the Panthers since October of 2022.

Redlands was outshot 37-5 and 15-3 on goal, but many of the chances Chapman got were either not in dangerous areas or when they did get there, they struggled to consistently test Immoos., who posted 14 saves on the night.

The Bulldogs get another home game this Saturday, October 17 when they host California Lutheran University (CLU) at 11:00 a.m.
