LOS ANGELES – The University of Redlands men's soccer team (6-1-4, 3-0-3 SCIAC) and Occidental College shared the 2025 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular season title and on Saturday night they shared the points as the game finished in a scoreless tie.
All but one of the attempts on goal in the first half came from the Tigers who were turned away by Bulldog keeper Jaden Nisperos (San Diego, CA) five times in the first 30 minutes.
The one look for the Bulldogs came from Thomas Lyden (Thornwood, NY) who had his shot saved in the 20th minute.
After the early flurry by Occidental, there were no shots that were goal bound for the final 15 minutes as the game stayed tied.
A minute and a half after the opening whistle of the second 45, Zachary Darmanyan (San Diego, CA) had his look stopped. Hunter Byrne (Arvada, CO) then had three attempts in four minutes, one of which hit the crossbar.
Following 29 minutes of no action, Nisperos was ready in the 59th as he made his sixth save on the night. A few minutes later Lyden had his second shot on goal saved.
From the 70th through the 75th minutes Redlands had two more shots get handled in goal, one by Lyden and the other by Darmanyan, while earning a corner that did not result in anything.
That Darmanyan shot was the last on target for the Bulldogs as the Tigers looked for a winner in the last nine minutes. Nisperos was up to the task with two stops to end the game with the same scoreline as the way the evening started.
Darmanyan and Lyden combined for eight shots, five of which were on goal. Nisperos made eight saves, which was a season-high.
