REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's soccer team (7-1-4, 4-0-2 SCIAC) received goals by Bo Robertson (Portland, OR), Zachary Darmanyan (San Diego, CA), and Jared Keyvan (Costa Mesa, CA) as they stayed unbeaten inside Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play with a 3-0 home win over Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) at Farquhar Field Wednesday evening.
Jaden Nisperos (San Diego, CA) needed to make one save all night and it came in the eighth minute as the Sagehens were unable to consistently find opportunities in and around the box, and when they did, they did not put them on frame.
After forcing four saves, the Bulldogs then received a cornerkick, which was then taken by Landon Azavedo's (Lake Oswego, OR). Robertson beat the defender inside for a diving header and a 1-0 U of R lead in the 37th minute. It was his second of the season.
There were only four shots on goal in the second half, all by Redlands, and the first two would find the back of the net within two minutes of each other.
Taylor Bell (Highland, CA) came up the right side and crossed a ball in that Anders Beckton (Seattle, WA) redirected to Darmanyan who went back across the goal to the far left corner making it 2-0 Bulldogs with his seventh goal of the season.
The dagger that ended the game came just under two minutes later when a free ball from a bad clearance in the box landed to Keyvan who volleyed it into the right corner of the net before the keeper could start his dive.
Redlands controlled the vast majority of the game, holding a 19-9 shot advantage, 10-1 shots on goal edge, and were plus three on corner kicks, 9-6.
Redlands goes back to the road where they take on Whittier College at 7:00 p.m. this Saturday, October 10. This will be the second meeting with the Poets as Redlands looks to get more than a point after settling for a 1-1 draw in their season opener with them a month ago.
