Day 2 Results | Men 1M Dive Results
MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – The University of Redlands swimming and diving teams are in eighth and seventh place after day two of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships with the men scoring 92 points through 15 events and the women 94.
Day 1
The men's team sat in eighth place with 54 points while the women were a spot better in seventh with 60 points.
The Bulldogs got things started with the women's 1m dive where Sydney Kerns took 11th with a score of 318.50 and Ayanna Leal took 17th with a score of 278.35. In the team, Kerns took 10th for seven points and Leal was 14th with three points.
Kerns' best round came in her eighth dive when she scored 39.60 on an inward 1 ½ somersault tuck dive. That was one of four, out of 11 total, dives that she scored 30 plus points.
Leal's strongest dive was her seventh when she posted a total of 34.10 points on a forward 2 somersault tuck. In total she had two 30-point dives along with her sixth dive when she scored 31.20.
The best scoring event for the Bulldog men was the 200 yard medley relay when Flynn Bayne, Tim Jensen, Ethan Chir, and Kadyn Butcher swam a 1:33.44 and took fifth for a total of 28 points. The time is the ninth-fastest in program history.
Sebas Maccalla, Noah Tikoo, Landynn Olivas, and Finn Mutuc took 15th (1:39.35) for another four points in the B final.
Redlands' final 22 points on the men's side came from Joesph Madigan, Tikoo, David Basa, and Olivas who took eighth in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:10.65.
The women got 24 points from their two 200 medley relay teams. The A team of Lina Matera, Athena Fitzgerald, Clare Carroll, and Avery Wells swam 1:51.97 and took eighth for 22 points. Ana-Adela Duran, Camryn Qsar, Kileigh Ackerman, and Brooklyn Green combined for a time of 1:53.30 which was good enough for 16th overall and two points in the B final.
Their final 26 points came courtesy of a seventh-place finish in the 800 free relay with Kaile Itow, Duran, Ava Marie Vearrier, and Rylie Kohl swimming a 8:23.92 for 24 points and Mackenzie Neese, Aubree Nabors, Olivia Meverden, and Christina Bennett scoring the final two with a 16th place finish and a time of 8:40.35.
Day 2
On the second of four days the Bulldog men scored 38 points and the women 34. They now sit 59 and 28 points out of fifth place in their respective standings.
In the men's 1m dive Conor Wherry took ninth with a total of 398.60. He posted three dives of 40 plus points and nine of his 11 scored 30 or higher. His best dive came on his sixth when he scored 53.65 on a forward 3 somersault tuck. His performance scored nine points for the U of R.
Madigan began the swimming portion with a point in the 500 yard free where he took 16th with a time of 4:47.18 after a prelim time of 4:43.60 qualified him.
Chir picked up two points as he took 15th with a time of 1:53.08. His prelim time was 1:53.14. The other individual point-getter was Jensen in the 50 free where he took 15th (21.39) for two points.
Back in the relays, Redlands had their biggest scoring race with a seventh-place finish in the 400 medley relay. Their time of 3:26.81, coming courtesy of Bayne, Jensen, Chir, and Butcher, is the ninth-fastest in program history.
Back on the women's side Carroll took 11th as the third-fastest finisher in the B final of the 50 free as she swam 24.32 for six points. Wells was seventh in the race (24.94) and collected an additional pair of points.
In the A final of the 400 medley relay, the quartet of Ackerman, Fitzgerald, Carroll, and Wells gave the maroon & gray 24 points after a seventh-place finish (4:05.00). Their B relay team swam 4:11.66 and brought home two points.
Redlands continues with day three of four tomorrow morning with the preliminaries prior to the evening finals.
