Redlands Baseball completes series sweep of Whitman with walk-off

REDLANDS, Calif. – Another 16-run game and a comeback helped the University of Redlands baseball team (6-5, 3-0 SCIAC) sweep their three-game series with Whitman College.

Jesse Bullard (Riverside, CA) doubled home Tanner Gerosa, Ian Umscheid (Beaumont, CA) singled in Luke Hanson (Escondido, CA), Anthony Thomas (Moreno Valley, CA) brought Nate Miller (San Jose, CA) around, and Aziz Bishop (Baltimore, MD) tripled to make it 5-0.

In the second, Umscheid hit a three-run home run to right and Thomas cleared the wall in left center to make it 9-0 Bulldogs. Amani Wilson (Seaside, CA) then made it 10-0 on a sacrifice fly to center.

Following a pair of Blues' runs, Bullard hit a three-run home run to left, Wilson doubled home a pair, and Bishop made it 16-2 with a sacrifice fly to seal the run-rule victory.

Erik Radder (San Diego, CA) through a complete game picking up the win, after giving up two runs on seven hits, while striking out four.

Game 2 (W, 10-9)

After another Bullard home run that made it 2-0, Whitman tied the game at two before a four-run second for the Maroon and Grey with RBI's coming from Gerosa, Bullard, and Thomas making it 6-2.

Despite the great start for Redlands, Whitman responded with nine unanswered to take a 9-6 lead into the seventh.

Umscheid and the Bulldogs, though, plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at nine.

Then in the ninth Gerosa was the hero with a walk-off RBI single into right center that scored Karlsen Drake (San Diego, CA).

The Bulldogs used five pitchers in the game with Bishop grabbing the win after throwing the final 1.2 innings, giving up a hit, walking one and striking out two.
