Redlands Baseball edged by Hendrix 7-4 in Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Redlands baseball team (7-7) fell behind 2-0 before taking a 4-3 lead in the seventh, but a four-run bottom half of the inning by Hendrix College proved to be the difference maker as the Bulldogs lost the third of four games, 7-4.

Jesse Bullard (Riverside, CA) got the Bulldogs on the board in the third with a two-run single to left driving in Sean McCance (Irvine, CA) and Luke Hanson (Escondido, CA). Bullard then homered to center for a 3-2 U of R lead.

Anthony Thomas (Moreno Valley, CA) reclaimed the lead for Redlands, 4-3, with a single through the left side as Ian Umscheid (Beaumont, CA) trotted home in the seventh.

The Warriors, though, found four runs in the next half inning thanks to a trio of singles as they pushed in front, 7-4.

In the eighth Eddy Stone (Petaluma, CA) was at second and McCance at first for Hanson, but he grounded out to the shortstop to end the frame. Then in the ninth the Bulldogs went down in order.

Redlands' other D3baseball.com National Team of the Week member, Bullard, had three hits and three RBI's. Tanner Gerosa (Huntington Beach, CA) had a pair of hits and both Stone and McCance reached base safely twice.

Erik Radder (San Diego, CA) battled through 6.1 innings as he worked around 11 hits, two walks, and a hit batter. He allowed all seven runs, but only four were earned. Chad Kober (Castaic, CA) had another strong relief appearance, going 1.2 scoreless.

The two sides wrap up the four-game series tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. pacific time.
